iPad Pro 9.7

Customizing your iPad wallpaper is arguably the first thing you should do in order to make the device your own. iPads come with a decent selection of wallpapers out of the box, but those will only hold you over for so long. When you’re ready to find something new, check out one of the best iPad wallpaper apps in the list below!

If you have an Android device as well, and need some great wallpaper apps, we have a best list for that too.

10000-plus-wallpapers-thumb10000+ Wallpapers

[Price: Free]
First up is the aptly named 10000 Wallpapers app. This app contains a metric ton of wallpapers that are categorized in a variety of different ways to help you find what you want. Not only has it already been updated to support iOS 9 (which most will as time goes), it’s also completely free with no in-app purchases and it’s consistently updated to improve its wallpaper selection. It’s worth a shot for sure.

For the minimalist at heart. The BucketWall iPad wallpaper app makes it easy to create custom, distraction-free wallpapers for your device. Simply choose your two base colors and use the slider to fade the colors into a custom gradient. For those who don’t like vibrant flowers, detailed landscapes, or personal photos in the background, BucketWall will quickly become a go-to.

cool-wallpapers-pokemon-edition-thumbCool Wallpapers – Pokémon Versions

[Price: Free]
With the Pokémon Go craze still going strong, this iPad wallpaper app had to make the list. With the Cool Wallpapers – Pokémon Version app, you can get your Pokémon fix wherever and whenever you power on your iPad. This app has the highest quality selection of Pokémon wallpapers for iPad that I came across. I’m not particularly fond of their organization system, but you will undoubtedly find your favorite characters in here, new or old.

doodle-dandy-thumbDoodle Dandy

[Price: Free]
Doodle Dandy is a DIY wallpaper application that allows you to draw and doodle images to make them your wallpaper. It comes with a variety of tools including an enhanced color palette, various brush sizes, a transparency tool, and unlimited undo functionality to get rid of mistakes. Using this, you can create your own wallpapers and use them or share them to Facebook for others. It’s not totally amazing, but it is fun to use and great for kids as well!

everpix-thumbEverpix

[Price: Free/$0.99]
The beautiful thing about the Everpix iPad wallpaper app is that it takes your right into the wallpaper experience. Once you open the app, you’ve immediately got a full-screen iPad wallpaper in front of you. Although I’ve run into the occasional loading screen when my WiFi signal was not great, the swiping interface is typically pretty smooth and quick to load. When you’ve found the wallpaper you like, either hit “Save” to download to photos, or the star icon to save to your favorites list.

hd-wallpaper-thumbHD Wallpapers & Backgrounds

[Price: Free/In-App Purchases]
HD Wallpapers and Backgrounds is an application that is serious about wallpapers. Currently, they have over 300 categories of wallpapers to choose from and boast about 500 new wallpapers being added every single day. They also boast having over a million wallpapers to choose from. It’s also stacked with features, including a goofy little puzzle game that you can play if you get that bored. This one is free with in-app purchases which feels a little off since all these other ones are essentially free, but this is a seriously good wallpaper app that’s worth a look.

hd-wallpapers-stand-thumbHD Wallpaper Stand

[Price: Free/$2.99]
HD Wallpapers Stand is a bit older of an application but it should still work with most newer versions of iOS. This app features a ton of wallpapers wrapped up in a very clean, easy-to-use design. It comes with the most basic features including preview mode and wallpapers that get updated fairly frequently. It’s not all that flashy or ridiculous which makes it a good simple option for those looking for something quickly and don’t need all the pizzazz.

wallpaper-cool-hd-thumbwallPaper

[Price: Free/Ad-Free with 5-Star Rating]
The first thing I noticed when opening up the wallPaper – Cool HD Backgrounds and Wallpapers app was the unique selection. This app leans towards a more artistic, sometimes abstract selection, with many categories that you won’t often find. Examples include the Trippy, Marble, Boho and Mandalas categories. One point of criticism I have is that the visual-heavy categories menu, with it’s parallax effect can be slow to load at times.

wallpapers-and-themes-hd-thumbWallpapers and Themes

[Price: Free]
Wallpapers and Themes does something a little different. Not only does it give you a decent selection of wallpapers, there are also theming elements available as well. On top of this unique feature, the app has new wallpapers updated every day and you can use them to create good looking home screens and lock screens. It’s relatively simple to use and you shouldn’t have any trouble making your device look good with this one.

wallpapers-hd-thumbWallpapers HD – New Themes and Backgrounds

[Price: Free/$1.99 Ad-Free]
By far the best experience of any iPad wallpaper apps. Wallpapers HD has a ton of features that I love, but here are my favorites. When previewing a wallpaper, you have the ability to customize with stickers, text, crop and focus and more – all with the built-in editor. You can also preview the wallpaper to see how it will look on your home screen – “try before you buy.” My last favorite feature is the ability to drag and drop images while browsing to perform various actions such as add to favorites, search similar images, or share. Definitely worth the download.

[Price: Free/$1.99 Ad-Free]
4K. The term that took the internet by storm in recent years. While the iPad’s display isn’t quite 4K, the X Wallpaper iPad App offers some stunning, high-quality images that look absolutely incredible on the iPad’s display – especially retina models. I’m not a huge fan of the category system, as it requires you to “subscribe” to categories for them to appear on the homepage, and the selection is the largest, but the image quality makes up for all of that.
