The classic shape matching game has made it’s way to the iPad in Busy Shapes, a game inspired by Jean Piaget, a Swiss scientist and intelligence expert. Like any physical shape matching game, this app will task your toddler with dragging on-screen shapes into their appropriate holes. For more advanced or older children, the app offers some challenges such as requiring that shapes are touched to a colored surface to match the color of the holes. The textures and and colors of this game are very attractive to children and there are a ton of feature built-in to make this very playable for little hands!
Endless Wordplay

As the name suggests, Endless Wordplay is a game that teaches your little ones about words. At each level (or lesson) your child will complete sentences by spelling words with the help of Alphabot. To help them along, each letter that is touched is sounded out. The game is packed full of creative little animations and scenes that will keep kids engaged and wanting to play. Though this is one of the best iPad apps and games for toddlers, the downside is that the free app only includes three spelling lessons (9 words). You’ll have to pay at least $6.99 to get more, and trust, your toddler will want more.
FUNNY FOOD: 15 Games for Toddlers & Kids

Funny Food is a collection of games that teaches your toddler some fundamental skills such as shapes, sizes, colors, sorting and more with, as you might have guessed from the name, food! The app is full of colorful characters and simple little games that engage the little ones. The games are short and simple, catering to kids’ short attention spans. Unfortunately, the app only comes with four games for free, but you can unlock the rest of them with the small price of $2.99.
LetterSchool

LetterSchool is an educational app that helps teach toddlers how to write letters. Despite the proliferation of computers and typing, learning to write is still considered a key skill for kids to learn. It’s a fairly simple app overall and its main function is to help teach kids how to write letters and numbers by using tracing. It features uppercase and lowercase letters and it comes complete with a progression system to help keep score for up to three players.
Monkey Preschool Lunchbox

Monkey Preschool Lunchbox is one of the more popular preschool and toddler apps available right now. This one is actually several games mashed up into one application. The games are all educational and will help teach kids about counting, letters, colors, shapes, and critical thinking skills like matching and the difference between two things. It’s reasonably priced with no in-app purchases and even has a decent rating.
Originator Inc Collection

Originator Inc is a development studio on iTunes that specializes in kids games. They have a number of great titles in the “Endless” franchise, including Endless Reader, Endless Numbers, Endless Alphabet, and some other stuff like Mr Potato Head and BeBop Blox. Pretty much all of these titles are pretty good and feature more-or-less the same kinds of elements with slightly different lessons for kids to learn. Do beware as some of these do have in-app purchases.
Quick Math Jr.

Quick Math Jr. makes learning to count, add, subtract and more very fun for your toddler. The best feature of this app is that it feature adaptive difficulty so yo know your child is always going to be challenged, but will also be able to solve the problems. Not only is this great for sharpening math skills, but it also engages children creatively by letting them create customized monsters with their rewards and see them later inside the app. The lessons in the game are a ton of fun for the kiddos, but watch out for those in-app purchases. Make sure you’re requiring a password for purchases before handing over to your little one.
Sago Mini Monsters

Sago Mini, who’s motto is “For kids. For parents. For giggles.” has created a handful, maybe a couple handfuls, of creative, engaging apps that “build on kids’ natural sense of wonder, creativity, and curiosity”. Sago Mini Monsters is no different. The app lets your toddler’s imagination run free by crafting their very own (friendly) monster! They can customize eyes, horns, mouths, color and more. When done, they can keep the monster happy by feeding it, and can take photos to share with you. Did someone say refrigerator decoration? The best part is there are no ads or in-app purchases so your child can play worry-free!

Shape the Village, as the name implies, is an app that focuses around teaching children about shapes. The app includes 16 activities in total that teach all about shapes, including identification, telling the difference between them, and, of course, what they all look like. It’s made for toddlers so the app is easy to use and even includes some small bits like night mode to give it a little more flair. It also comes with a reasonable price tag and no in-app purchases.
Toca Boca Collection

Last, and certainly not least, is the Toca Boca collection. Toca Boca is another development studio that focuses on kids games and they have a ton to choose from. Some of the more popular titles include Toca Kitchen 2, Toca Hair Salon 2, Toca Nature, and there are plenty of other options. Most of the titles come with a cheap price tag and no in-app purchases and most of them are either educational or at least carry a positive message. They’re good apps done by good developers.
