Angry Birds is a long running series of puzzle games where you launch birds into structures to try to take out evil pigs. It’s entertaining and cutesy with bright colors, cute animals, and a ton of content. There are roughly half a dozen games in the series and each one has hundreds of levels. Rovio also has a few other titles in the Angry Birds series, including more puzzle games and even an RPG. Most of the content is safe for children and most of it is free.

Clumsy Ninja

Clumsy Ninja is a favorite among kids and adults alike. The realistic engine behind the game allows characters within to react uniquely to each touch and each situation. Being able to control the character, and watching him stumble and fall down results in a ton of fun and laughter for kids. The game doesn’t require any skill to have fun, which is what makes it great for the little ones.

Swiping and interacting with the characters, they’ll come across new abilities and tricks, and by the time it’s over, they’ll likely be showing you things that you didn’t know were possible!

Jump Numbers

Sure, your kids can have a ton of fun with just about any iPad games for kids, but you might also want them to learn something. Jump Numbers is a game that will give your kiddos the best of both worlds. If you couldn’t tell by the name, this game helps kids learn to count. To get the character across the water, you have to count up by certain increments, which sometimes requires numbers to be merged.

Additionally, this game will help with strategic thinking when the kids are challenged with taking their character in certain directions to help save the Snortles!

Monkey Preschool Lunchbox

Monkey Preschool Lunchbox is a game that is targeted at younger kids. It features seven games in total that help kids learn a variety of things. For instance, one game helps teach colors while another helps teach kids how to count. It also comes with some other stuff like stickers, unlimited play, and more.

Perhaps the most refreshing feature is that it costs $1.99 and comes with no in-app purchases so the kids won’t accidentally max out your credit card!

Monster Want Burger

When it comes to kids games, the simpler, the better. Monster Want Burger is just that. By combining ingredients one at a time on a plate in front of one hungry monster, kids can really express their creativity. It’s especially fun that no matter the combination of ingredients, there is a name for each burger that the monster sucks down (he has teeth but doesn’t chew).

The game keeps kids on their toes though, because if they don’t complete a burger in the allotted amount of time it’s game over and the monster gets a little hangry.

Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games/a>

Undoubtedly the least creatively named suite of apps, but likely the most focused on education, Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games by Kevin Bradford is a great addition to your iPad if you have little ones somewhere in the age range of 2 – 6. Like a few of the other collections on this list, Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games consists of a variety of iPad games for kids that teach a variety of skills such as memory, math, puzzles, spelling and more.

The emphasis of the game is dedicated less to the actual gameplay and more on the education which is a plus for many parents. The one bummer here is that only two of the games are included for free. The other 10? Well you’ll have to cough up $3.99 for that.

Subway Surfers

[Price: Free/In-App Purchases]
Subway surfers has become one of the more popular run-style games available, and its cartoony character and level design make it a hit with kids. Like others in this genre, the goal is to run as far as possible, and collect as many coins as possible. The challenge comes from having to dodge oncoming and static trains, duck and jump over obstacles. Given the fact that your character is trying to escape a police office who’s caught them “tagging” a train, and for the “infrequent/mild cartoon or fantasy violence” the game is rated for 9 and up.

Also, be wary of the in-app purchases!

The Nosy Crow Collection

Nosy Crow is a development studio and it has released a ton of kids games. Some of them include famous Disney characters like Snow White and Cinderella while others are more classic things like The Three Little Pigs or Little Red Riding Hood. Each one is an interactive story where the players get to have a say in what happened in the story instead of simply following along. They’re generally inexpensive and have no in-app purchases which is great for youngsters. C

The Toca Boca AB Collection

Toca Boca AP is another developer studio on iTunes that specializes in kids games. They have quite a decent little collection of apps that let kids play with all kinds of stuff, such as hair styling, trains, kitchens, playing doctor, and a ton more. They’re not all home runs but the vast majority of them are pretty decent. Most of them also go for a flat rate with no in-app purchases which is always a good thing for kids content.

Where’s My Mickey

[Price: $1.99]
Last and certainly not least on our list is Where’s My Mickey by Disney. This fun little puzzle game will have you digging through dirt in order to make a path that leads to Mickey so he can have some water. Much like Angry Birds and Cut the Rope, the “Where’s My…?” series of games contains easy game play, bright colors, and fun, child-friendly characters.
